Lilacs Quilt 2 is part of the Lilacs Series. The pattern used in this quilt and in other pieces in the series is an original pattern. Like lilacs, the pattern is dense and airy, organic yet geometric and it blooms across the quilt in an elongated way.
Size - approx 73" x 75"
This one of a kind quilt is made with Essex cotton/linen that has been hand dyed with oak galls and iron to create beautiful shades of a moody lavender gray. Additionally a natural color cotton/linen was used for the background. The back of the quilt is an improvised mix of naturally dyed and natural colored fabrics.
The front and back were machine pieced, meaning the patchwork is machine sewn. The quilting, meaning the stitches running throughout, is done by hand with off white cotton sashiko thread. Hand quilting is a very laborious and time consuming process but the impact of the hand stitches cannot be mimicked with a machine. The quilt binding, which is hand sewn, is made with a natural shade of fabric so it blends in with the background and does not distract from the central pattern. This quilt has 100% cotton batting. It is a functional piece that would be best suited as a wall hanging or an accent piece for furniture.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
It's best to display quilts away from direct sunlight. Some natural dyes are sensitive to sunlight which can cause fading.
Vacuuming the quilt with a stocking over the vacuum hose is an easy way to remove light dust.
For a deeper clean, professional cleaning is recommended.
For most quilts it is possible to clean by soaking in a tub and handwashing with care using a gentle detergent. Rinse and remove the excess water. Lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight. Hanging the quilt to dry will put strain on the stitches.
Please do not machine wash.
