 Throw sized 60” x 60”

The Indigo Everlasting Quilt is a variation on the Tree Everlasting quilt pattern which was created around 1850. This quilt is made with lightweight cotton that has been hand dyed in studio using indigo and walnut. There are 4 different shades of indigo used - the shade of indigo depends on the number of dips in the dye vat the fabric receives. To achieve the light shades takes 2-3 dips but to reach the darker indigo requires 8 or more dips.

The front and back were machine pieced, meaning the patchwork is machine sewn. The quilting, meaning the stitches running throughout, is done by hand with cream colored cotton sashiko thread. Hand quilting is a very laborious and time consuming process but the impact of the hand stitches cannot be mimicked with a machine. The binding is a mix of naturally dyed and khaki cotton fabrics and is sewn by hand.

This lightweight quilt has 100% cotton batting. It is a functional piece but would be best suited for decorative use - a wall hanging, bed cover or an accent throw for furniture.

Care Instructions

It's best to display quilts away from direct sunlight. Some natural dyes are sensitive to sunlight which can cause fading.

Vacuuming the quilt with a stocking over the vacuum hose is an easy way to remove light dust.

For a deeper clean, professional cleaning is recommended.

For most quilts it is possible to clean by soaking in a tub and handwashing with care using a gentle detergent. Rinse and remove the excess water. Lay flat to dry out of direct sunlight. Hanging the quilt to dry will put strain on the stitches.

Please do not machine wash.
