Workshops

Painting with Botanical Inks at Lucinda and Jane (Cold Spring, NY)

Saturday, September 14 at 10 AM. Sign up through Lucinda and Jane.

One part art, one part science, one part magic! In this workshop participants will learn basic recipes for creating inks from plants and flowers, how to change the pH of an ink to create a range of amazing colors and how to use this knowledge to create beautiful works on paper. We will make one ink together from start to finish that everyone will bottle and bring home with them. We will also paint with premade inks, some from locally foraged plants like buckhorn berry, wild grape and goldenrod, to create colorful cosmic paintings on watercolor paper. This is an open level workshop. Student grade watercolor paper and brushes will be supplied but you are welcome to bring your own paper and brushes as well.

Make a Patchwork Quilt at Garrison Art Center (Garrison, NY)

Starts Sunday, Oct 6-27 1:30 pm - 4pm. Sign up through Garrison Art Center.

In this quilting class, participants will learn to create a wall-hanging-sized quilt from start to finish. The class will cover quilt design, measuring and cutting fabric, simple geometric patchwork with a sewing machine, setting up a quilt with a front, back and batting, basting a quilt, 'big stitch' hand quilting with a needle and thread, sewing a quilt binding by hand and adding an optional hanging sleeve for display. Participants will need to know how to sew a straight line with their sewing machine. Experience with hand sewing will be helpful but not required. By the end of this class, everyone will have the knowledge to create a quilt in any size and continue to make quilts on their own. This class is for adults and mature teens with basic machine sewing skills. Students are required to bring their own sewing machine; all other materials are included.

There will be no class on October 13.
