Workshops
Plant to Pigment: Ink Making with Foraged Botanicals at That Creative Space (Beacon, NY)
Sunday, September 21 at 10 AM. Sign up through That Creative Space.
One part art, one part science, one part magic!
In this workshop participants will learn basic recipes for creating inks from plants, berries and flowers, how to change the pH of an ink to create a range of amazing colors and how to use this knowledge to create beautiful works on paper.
We will be working with materials that have been foraged around Beacon, NY (wild grape,
buckthorn berry, cutleaf cone flower, etc.) - some we will even forage together. We will create inks with these foraged plants and use them to make colorful, cosmic paintings on watercolor paper. This is an open level workshop.
Hand Quilting With Sashiko Thread at That Creative Space (Beacon, NY)
Saturday, October 11 at 10 AM. Sign up through That Creative Space.
In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you’ll make your own mini quilt while learning the full process from start to finish. We’ll cover how to layer and baste your quilt, mark simple designs onto the top, and hand quilt using sashiko thread (sometimes called big stitch quilting). You’ll also learn how to finish your piece with binding techniques you can use again and again.
We’ll be working on pre-pieced or wholecloth quilt tops—your choice! All sewing will be done by hand, so there’s no need for a sewing machine. While some hand sewing experience is helpful, it’s absolutely not required.
By the end of class, you’ll leave with a mini quilt you made yourself—and the confidence to keep stitching.
